There’s a New Shark in Town at SEA LIFE Michigan And You Can Name Him! - Greater Lansing Area Moms

Update… his name is Elvis!  Elvis is at the SEA LIFE Michigan!

_______________

Something JAW-some is happening at SEA LIFE Michigan! Just in time for Shark Week (July 20-26) SEA LIFE Michigan has welcomed a brand-new species — the Houndshark!

According to the Florida Museum of Natural History, Houndsharks are sleek, bottom-dwelling predators known for their calm nature and gentle movements , making them an exciting and approachable addition to the aquarium. Native to warmer coastal waters, these sharks often hunt small fish and crabs along the ocean floor. And just like their name suggests, their streamlined bodies and behavior can sometimes remind us of a curious sea hound on the hunt!

The Aquarium of the Pacific seconds the idea of their gentle demeanor and at times nicknamed the “gentle shark” in both captivity and in the wild.

The addition of the Houndshark makes for the 9th shark species on display at SEA LIFE Michigan. He’s full grown and likely about five years old!

And here’s the fun part: you can help name him! Yup, And SEA LIFE Michigan is asking you for help in naming the newest addition to their aquarium.

Last year, they asked aquarium lovers for help naming Dolly, a guitarfish and this summer, make room Dolly, there’s a new species in town.
