Shark Week and More Sharks! - Greater Lansing Area Moms

It’s Shark Week!

Shark Week is a popular around here for a few reasons!  It is a break from the heat, the whole family enjoys it (one may be with her eyes covered for some parts) and it always spars some sort of interesting conversation. The themed week has given more opportunity than we initially bargained for. It has also been the motivation for road trips and ways of learning more about these creatures of the sea.

Below are a few aquariums we have visited:

🦈 LEGASEA Aquarium
🦈 SEALIFE Michigan
🦈 Shedd Aquarium
🦈 Newport Aquarium
🦈 Toledo Zoo & Aquarium

If you are looking for an aquarium to visit with lots of Michigan history, check out Belle Isle Aquarium.  While you will not find salt water, or sharks, you will find America’s oldest aquarium.   If you have visited the Belle Isle Aquarium before, it may look a little different.  COVID-19 presented an opportunity to significantly renovate the facility. Over 16 months, the Belle Isle Conservancy invested $1.2M in improvements to the aquarium.

There are so many more aquariums across the United States. The Association of Zoos & Aquariums has a comprehensive list of accredited zoos and aquariums.

And Drive the Nation shares a list of the 5 Best Aquariums to See Sharks!
