Dana shares how taking additional training after more than twenty years in the nursing field has changed her life. She now owns and operates, Grand Beauty Solutions in Lansing. A business that allows her to provide one-on-one care and a “business that is truly making a difference in people’s lives!”
She balances this all while being a mom to three busy boys, Dana shares “ I try to plan my late evenings around my sons’ school events as much as I can. I think that this business was built on being a mom! “

Hello, I’m Dana Simon! I am a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist and Certified Aesthetic Injector. I am from Portland, Michigan and that is where my family and I still reside. I have over 20 years of nursing experience. I graduated from Michigan State University with a Masters in Science in Nursing in 2015 and my undergraduate degree was from Grand Valley State University. I have worked at many local hospitals and surgery centers providing anesthesia services.
Four years ago, I took some additional training and became a Certified Aesthetic Injector. This has changed my life! I love the field of Aesthetics. I love to make people feel beautiful without knowing that the person had any work done. I want all my clients to look natural and beautiful.
How old are your children?
I have 3 boys ages 17, 15, and 7!
What do you think is one of the best parts about being a mom?
I love setting my boys up for success both in their personal and professional lives. What I mean is giving them the tools to use when they are grown. I always tell them true growth happens when you are out of your comfort zone. We talk about comfort zones a lot.
What is a piece of advice for new moms you wish you would have known when you were a new mom?
I think the best piece of advice that I received after my first son was born was that it goes way too fast! I was wishing him out of the toddler stage and now I miss it. There is something to be cherished with every stage.
As a Nurse Anesthetist I provide anesthesia for all parts of the surgical process. I provide a one on one discussion with the patient about their anesthetic and I stay with them and give their anesthesia throughout the entire process from start to going home. I love providing one on one care.
As I have transitioned more into doing Aesthetics I am still able to provide that one on one care throughout the entire process. Also, I am very comfortable injecting and providing treatment options that are science driven! My business, Grand Beauty Solutions, LLC, is founded on science and a patient-focused approach.
What treatments do you offer at Grand Beauty Aesthetics?
We are adding more treatments everyday! What’s your favorite treatment to perform?
This is a hard one for me, but my favorite treatments to perform would be Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) with Microneedling and Regenerative Fillers! PRP with Microneedling uses your own blood to treat fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage and melasma, uneven skin tone, redness, acne, scarring and newer studies are showing PRP treats skin conditions like rosacea, eczema, and psoriasis!
We use a Regenerative Filler called Radiesse that stimulates your own body to produce collagen and elastin over time. So you get both immediate and long term results. It can safely be used in almost any place where you have lost collagen! It is giving back what you have lost as we all age.
In all these age groups everyone should be using Medical Grade Skincare. With medical grade skincare they are able to put in higher concentrations of active ingredients and they go through more testing that what you can buy at an Ulta or Sephora for example. It will really transform your skin.
Ideally, to do any aesthetic treatment you should be using medical grade skincare to prolong your results! In addition, all age groups need to apply a SPF greater than 30. The sun gives you the most skin damage.
In your late 20s, you should add a nightly retinol and continue that as you age. Retinols are very well studied and they increase cell turnover that helps smooth fine lines and wrinkles.
As you move into your 30s and 40s we need to start rebuilding the collagen that you have lost and are losing. Treatments like Ultherapy and PRP Microneedling and some Regenerative Filler can be considered. Ultherapy uses ultrasound to stimulate your own body to produce collagen and elastin!
As we age past 40 these skin treatments still apply, but aging can be seen more rapidly so doing maintenance with these above treatments will help that aging process slow. I treat a lot of 70 year old clients!
Please share a healthcare tip(s) – what SPF should we be using and how often do we reapply?
Everyone should be using at least a SPF 30+. Reapply as often as the bottle recommends with full sun and you should also be using a daily day cream with SPF.
How do you balance being a mom and owning a small business?
I believe this is the toughest thing that any mom tries to figure out with any type of job! I try to plan my late evenings around my sons’ school events as much as I can. I think that this business was built on being a mom! I am able to get flexibility while growing a business that I believe is truly making a difference in people’s lives.

Last book you read?
Oh boy, a paper on PRP and treating eczema! Does that count? It has been a while since I have read a real book for fun, but I enjoy romance novels!
Do you have a favorite brand, or a must-have that you carry?
Neocutis! Neocutis is medical grade skincare and I don’t leave home without it. I even travel with it. If I go out without makeup I always have on my skincare!
Where are some of your favorite places locally to spend time with your family?
My youngest loves to go to zoos, so we visit local zoos in the summer. We all enjoy going for quad rides on trails by our house. And personally, I enjoy the Portland River Trail for many walks and runs!
What are you looking forward to most this summer?
Getting back outside and working in the woods by our house!
