What is microneedling?

The process of microneedling punctures the skin, resulting in the production of collagen. A microneedling pen is used for this procedure, which looks like a pencil but has many tiny needles. These tiny needles trigger a healing response by causing micro-injuries that cause the body to produce collagen. Because the wounds on the skin are small, they heal quickly and don’t leave scars.
What is PRP?
Platelet-rich plasma, also known as “Liquid Gold” is made up of growth factors and nutrient-rich cells taken from your own blood. The combination of microneedling and PRP has become increasingly popular in recent years.
To prepare PRP, blood is collected from the patient, similar to a normal blood test. The blood is then centrifuged to separate the platelets from it so that PRP can be extracted in a concentrated form.
After creating the PRP serum, the PRP is then microneedled directly into the skin. As collagen proteins repair skin tissue, this cosmetic treatment stimulates collagen production. It has the potential to enhance collagen and elastin production. Additionally, it has anti-aging and anti-acne properties. Since PRP uses your own blood factors, it can stimulate collagen production without causing any side effects.
Why is microneedling/ PRP so popular?
Microneedling and PRP are popular, especially with moms, because it gives GREAT results with only a short amount of downtime. By drawing increased blood flow to the skin, microneedling can address hyperpigmentation including sun spots and melasma, as well as blemishes like acne scars and enlarged pores. Does Microneedling hurt?
It feels more like an irritation but it is definitely tolerable! Lidocaine is applied before the treatment to help numb the face. Dana checks in all through the session to make sure you are doing ok.
How much downtime is needed?
Bruising and swelling are possible, plan 2 weeks before any events. For microneedling, recovery lasts 1-2 days with reddened skin, but usually can easily be covered up with makeup and the redness is gone much quicker if PRP is used.
Do you need more than one treatment?
For most people at least 3 sessions at 4-6 week intervals are recommended for best results.
How long do microneedling results last?
Results from a series of microneedling treatments can last for several months up to a year depending upon several factors including the severity of the concerns being treated, the daily skincare routine, and individual characteristics.
