Northern Michigan + WINTER equals Pure Michigan! Snow has fallen, cross-country and downhill skiing has started, the holidays are here and maybe a road trip has been scheduled!!
Shanty Creek Resort located about 2.5 hours north of Greater Lansing is a great family getaway, but still close enough to be a weekend getaway. This beautiful resort is a family favorite as I have been coming here for years. I now bring my kids and love it even more!

December 25th, SKI FREE WITH SANTA, ski all day for free and find Santa on the slopes for a selfie, 9-4:30 pm!
December 31st, The entire family will enjoy a comedian, magician, and DJ with dancing at the Family Fun Dinner Show! Entertainment begins at 8 pm. Reservations are required by calling 231-533-7084.
December 31st, NYE FIREWORKS, ring in the New Year with a fireworks display over Summit Mountain at 11 pm.
WINTER ACTIVITIES AT SHANTY CREEK RESORT!
Downhill Skiing– Shanty Creek offers over 40 runs, catering to all levels! Beginners can enjoy the bunny hill and the magic carpet will take you back to the top, while intermediate skiers can try out the greens and blues runs. For those who are looking for a challenge, there are black runs available too! If you’re into terrain parks, Shanty Creek has got you covered there as well. It’s recommended to purchase your lift ticket ahead of time as tickets can sell out on busy days.
Ski School– Choose from Private Lessons, Group Lessons, and specially-designed programs for children ages 5-12 Also, be sure to check out the COLD IS COOL ski program if you have a 4th or 5th grader!
Alpine Tubing– a family FAVORITE and the best part, ride the magic carpet and you don’t have to climb back to the top! Open Friday evenings, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. Skip the lines and buy your tickets here!
Cross Country Skiing– if downhill skiing is not your thing, try out the 25km of groomed, tracked trails that crisscross the four villages of the resort to create a “village-to-village” experience! Private lessons are available.
Snowshoeing and Fat Tire Biking– check out the 3km groomed multi-purpose trail at Schuss Village designated for fat tire biking and snowshoeing!
