More from NECTAR body·face·skin - Greater Lansing Area Moms

I’ve been sharing pieces of my experience at NECTAR body·face·skin on social media, and each time I do, the same thing happens, lots of questions follow.

Questions like: What did I have done? Why did I choose it? What was it actually like?

While social media is great for quick glimpses, it hasn’t been the easiest place to share the full picture.

So, we decided to create this living blog post. It is a place where I can gather my experiences in one spot and continue updating it as my journey with NECTAR evolves. It’s meant to be a resource, not a highlight reel, offering context, clarity, and honest insight for anyone curious about these treatments.

My interest in skincare started early. My grandma (and later my mom) were Mary Kay ladies. There were no pink Cadillacs, but there was a closet full of neatly organized skincare, routines, and consistency. That foundation shaped how I think about skincare today: intentional, routine-driven, and adaptable. Now, I’m simply tailoring that familiar framework to meet my own skin’s changing needs.

I’m not looking to erase the years my face has lived through. I’m also not interested in looking tired, worn down, or perpetually mom-exhausted. What I want is for my current face to look healthy, rested, and glowy, and NECTAR helps me get there.

I’m not trying to reconstruct myself into a former version or chase who I was years ago. I want to care for the face I have now, support it as it changes, and approach anti-aging realistically without denying my age or the wisdom that comes with it.

And yes, I’ll happily admit: being mistaken for a few years younger is a bonus I’ll gladly take.

You may notice recurring words as I talk about my experiences with NECTAR, intentional, supportive, personalized, confidence. Those words consistently align with how the care feels: thoughtful, tailored, and centered on helping you feel confident in your own skin.

If you have any questions, please ask and remember your sunscreen!

Christine 🙂

What to Expect at Your First Visit to NECTAR body·face·skin

Walking into your first appointment at NECTAR shouldn’t feel intimidating, and it isn’t. It truly is a group of mostly moms who have created a space that is safe, judgement free and full of whatever you need it to be.

Every appointment begins with a thoughtful conversation. This is where questions are encouraged, goals are discussed, and concerns are addressed openly. There’s no pressure to decide anything on the spot. Instead, the focus is on understanding your facial anatomy, lifestyle, and what you want to feel when you look in the mirror. The goal is not chasing trends or dramatic change.

Safety and education are foundational at NECTAR. Treatments are performed by trained medical professionals who prioritize subtle, natural-looking results. You’ll learn what different options do (and don’t do), what realistic outcomes look like, and how a personalized plan may evolve over time. For many first-time clients, reassurance comes from knowing that less is often more.

If you choose to move forward with treatment, the process is straightforward and efficient, with clear guidance on what to expect during and after your visit. Downtime, aftercare, and follow-up are explained so there are no surprises.

Most importantly, your first visit to Nectar is about partnership. It’s not about “fixing” anything. It’s about supporting confidence, honoring choice, and creating a plan that works for you, at your pace. Whether you leave with treatment or simply information, you’ll leave feeling informed, respected, and supported.

What to Expect at Your First Visit to NECTAR body·face·skin - INJECTABLES

Whether you’re brand new to injectables or simply curious, learning about options like Botox and Xeomin should feel approachable and not overwhelming. At NECTAR, the experience is designed to be calm, informative, and entirely centered on you.

Just like every visit, injectable appointments begin with a thoughtful consultation. This is where questions are encouraged, goals are discussed, and expectations are shaped together. Botox and Xeomin are both neuromodulators, meaning they work by relaxing targeted facial muscles to soften expression lines and help prevent deeper lines from forming over time. While they work in similar ways, subtle differences can make one a better fit depending on your anatomy, goals, and how your body responds.

There is no one-size-fits-all approach. Dosing, placement, and timing are personalized, and plans can be adjusted as your face changes or your preferences evolve. The goal isn’t to freeze expression or change how you look. It’s to help you look rested, refreshed, and like yourself on a good day.

Most importantly, injectables at NECTAR are about intention, not pressure. Whether you choose to move forward with treatment or simply gather information, you’ll leave with clarity, confidence, and a plan that works at your pace now and in the future.

My Hydrafacial Experience with ZO® Products

Hydrafacial has always felt like one of those treatments everyone talks about, but pairing it with ZO® products at NECTAR made it feel elevated, intentional, and truly personalized. I wasn’t looking for a quick glow that disappeared in a day or two. I wanted my skin to feel deeply clean, hydrated, and genuinely healthier.

As with every visit to NECTAR, the experience began with a conversation. We talked about my skin, what it’s been through lately, and what it actually needs. Using ZO® products during the Hydrafacial allowed the treatment to be tailored more precisely, addressing things like congestion, dryness, and overall skin balance rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.

The treatment itself was relaxing and surprisingly thorough. Hydrafacial does a beautiful job of cleansing, exfoliating, and hydrating all at once, without feeling aggressive. My skin felt clean, but not stripped or damaged. It felt calm, not irritated. The addition of ZO® products left my skin feeling nourished and supported, not just temporarily “glowy.”

What I noticed most afterward was how good my skin felt in the days that followed. Makeup went on more smoothly, my skin felt balanced, and the results didn’t vanish overnight. It felt like a reset in the best way.

For me, Hydrafacial with ZO® products at NECTAR fits perfectly into a maintenance routine. It’s effective, approachable, and supportive of long-term skin health. Exactly the kind of care I want for my skin now.

Why I Dermaplane at NECTAR

Dermaplaning is one of those treatments that seems simple, but once you experience it, you realize how much of a difference it can make. For me, dermaplaning at NECTAR is less about chasing a glow and more about resetting my skin in a way that feels immediate, gentle, and effective.

Each visit starts the same way it always does at NECTAR, with a conversation. We talk about what my skin needs right now, whether it’s buildup from products, dullness, or that feeling where makeup just isn’t sitting quite right. Dermaplaning is explained clearly, including who it’s best for and when it makes sense to skip it, which always makes the decision feel thoughtful rather than routine.

There are some options at NECTAR that includes dermaplaning and a dermaplaning facial is also a stand along option,

The treatment itself is quick and surprisingly relaxing. Using a medical-grade blade, the provider gently removes dead skin cells and peach fuzz, revealing smoother skin underneath. There’s no discomfort. I just feel a light, careful motion that leaves your skin feeling instantly softer and more polished.

What I notice most afterward is how everything works better. Skincare absorbs more easily, makeup goes on smoother, and my skin looks brighter without looking “done.” There’s no downtime, just that fresh, clean feeling that makes your skin feel like it’s functioning the way it should.

And I said earlier it was not about chasing the glow, but the glow, well you know when you know!

Dermaplaning at Nectar fits seamlessly into my routine because it’s simple, effective, and supportive, not corrective. It’s one of those treatments that quietly makes everything else work better, and that’s exactly why I keep coming back.

My BBL HEROic Experience

When I decided to try BBL HEROic at NECTAR, my goal was simple: clearer, more even skin without a lot of downtime or drama. I wasn’t chasing perfection,I wanted my skin to look brighter, healthier, and more consistent, especially in areas where sun damage and redness tend to show up.

As with every visit to NECTAR, the experience started with a thoughtful conversation. We talked about my skin history, what I was noticing, and what I hoped to improve. BBL HEROic was explained in a way that made sense—how it targets pigmentation, redness, and overall tone, and why it works best as part of a long-term skin health plan. I appreciated knowing what it could realistically do and how results build over time.

The treatment itself was quick. You feel brief pulses of warmth, but it was very tolerable and over faster than I expected. What surprised me most was how easy it felt—no complicated prep, no extended recovery time.

Afterward, my skin looked a little flushed, but that faded quickly. Over the following weeks, I noticed a gradual clarity and brightness that felt natural, not obvious. Sun spots softened, redness looked calmer, and my skin overall felt more balanced.

Initially I had three BBL HEROic treatments, one each month. And another area mom mentioned to me when I was asking about this treatment, “one is a treat, three is a treatment.”

She was spot on with this idea. After the first, there were drastic changes. The following were not so much but focused on areas a little more stubborn with a more lasting outcome.

BBL HEROic fit seamlessly into my routine because it supported what I actually want from skincare now: maintenance, prevention, and confidence. It wasn’t about fixing flaws, although it did remove some freckles from many of sun-filled summers. It continues to be about taking care of my skin in a way that feels informed, intentional, and sustainable.

My First MOXI Experience

I’ll be honest, when I booked my first MOXI treatment at NECTAR, I wasn’t looking for a dramatic change. I wanted my skin to feel refreshed, healthier, and more like me on a good day. The kind of improvement that doesn’t announce itself, but shows up quietly over time.

From the moment I arrived, the experience felt calm and intentional. We talked and reviewed my skin goals, what MOXI does (and doesn’t do), and whether it made sense for where my skin is right now.

The treatment itself was quicker than I expected. I’d describe the sensation as warm with a light prickly feeling, it is noticeable, but very manageable. What stood out most was how straightforward the process felt. I knew what was happening, why it was happening, and what to expect next.

In the days following, my skin was a bit red and had that sandpaper-like texture people mention, but nothing that stopped me from going about my day. As my skin healed, it felt smoother and more even, like it had reset in the best way.

What I appreciated most about MOXI at NECTAR is that it aligned with how I approach skincare now: preventative, intentional, and realistic. It wasn’t about changing my face, it was about supporting my skin and feeling confident in it. And that made all the difference.

My Experience with the ZO® 3-Step Chemical Peel

Before I tried BBL Heroic and MOXI treatments, my go-to for a bump up in the treatment department was a bit more than a facial could provide.  ZO® 3-Step Chemical Peel was the answer.

It was something I approached thoughtfully. I wasn’t looking for a quick fix or an aggressive treatment, I wanted a reset that would support my skin long-term while addressing tone, texture, and overall clarity.

As with every visit, it began with a personalized consultation. We talked through what the ZO® 3-Step Peel does, how it works, and whether it made sense for my skin at this point. I appreciated the clear expectations around the process, including what recovery would look like and how to care for my skin afterward. That preparation made all the difference.I was yellowish green for about a day.

The treatment itself was efficient and manageable. You’re very aware that something is happening and it was briefly VERY warm (they offered a fan and the discomfort was short-lived).

Over the next few days, my skin went through the expected stages: tightness, peeling, and renewal. And exactly as explained. Having that roadmap helped me feel comfortable and confident throughout the process.

What stood out most was the result. Once the peeling phase passed, my skin looked clearer, smoother, and more even. It didn’t feel like I had changed my skin, it felt like I had revealed a healthier version of it.

The ZO® 3-Step Chemical Peel at NECTAR aligned perfectly with my approach to skincare now: personalized, supportive, and focused on confidence rather than correction.

VAMP... what is it?

If you’ve seen VAMP and thought wait… salmon DNA?  Really,  same. It definitely catches your attention, but once you understand it, it makes a lot more sense. This treatment uses purified salmon DNA (PDRN) to support your skin’s natural ability to repair, hydrate, and strengthen from within.

What I liked about this one is that it’s not aggressive or over-the-top. There’s no real downtime, which made it feel similar to a 3-step peel in that way,  you still get that fresh, pick-me-up glow without having to plan around recovery. But it also goes a step deeper, working behind the scenes to improve texture, hydration, and overall skin quality over time.

For me, this felt like one of those treatments that quietly does its job. Not instant drama, but noticeable in the best way, smoother, healthier-looking skin that just keeps getting better. If you’re looking for something that supports your skin long-term while still giving you that “I did something and I can tell” kind of glow, this is a really interesting option to explore.

And best part. Zero downtime.

Sun Safety Guide with Jess from NECTAR body·face·skin

Sun Safety Guide with Jess from NECTAR body·face·skin

Spring Break is around the corner…time to enjoy some fun in the sun, wisely of course!  As a Dermatology Nurse Practitioner, I am geeked to share few quick sun tips:

“Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek, Slide” is a catchy alliteration (certainly a mouthful) for reducing unhealthy sun exposure.  The meaning behind this slogan is:

Slip on a shirt, rash guard, or clothing to block the sun’s harmful rays.
Slop on sunscreen. One ounce, which is approximately a golf ball or shot glass full is the appropriate amount for the average young adult body. Two finger lengths are a good amount for the face.
Slap on a wide-brimmed hat to keep your head, neck, and face protected.
Seek shade during peak UV hours, typically from 10-4; take shade breaks.
Slide on sunnies to save your peepers; sunglasses aren’t just an accessory.

Like a broken record playing lame lyrics, we are often told lousy information about sunscreen. Sunscreen choices seem to be the same every year.  With many products on the market performing subpar or containing potentially harmful ingredients, I’m here to share quality products for you and your kiddos.  Here’s the gist:

  • Avoid sprays
  • Shoot for spf 50+, apply proper amount and reapply every 2 hours
  • Top Picks for babies/kids: Baby Bum, Badger, Blue Lizard, SunTribe, Hello Bello
  • Top Picks for you: ☀️SkinBetter Science Tone Smart, ☀️ZO Broad Spectrum, Blue Lizard, Badger

To slide my nerd glasses further down my nose and lean in to take it a little further, we should be looking for more than just UVA/UVB protection.  Photoaging, skin damage, cancer risk, and sunspots are caused not only by UVA/UVB, but also high energy visibility light (HEV), Blue light (electronics/screens) and Infrared light (IR). The recommendations above with the ☀️ provide that protection as well.

Now you know, so go have fun in the sun!
