Moneyball Sportswear has the motto, “Grow With Us… Moneyball, The Only Way To Ball,” and they know their way around both the court and athletic apparel. And growing is just what owner and founder, Desmond Ferguson has done! Desmond, a former NBA Professional Basketball Player and graduate of the University of Detroit-Mercy where he also played – he knows a thing or two about what athletes like.
He took experience and input of fellow players and developed a brand that competes with other large, well known brands. Yet they have a desire to focus on individuality of smaller teams, organizations and sports as well. Locally they uniform 3 high school teams and you will find athletes on intercollegiate and professional levels also sporting their brand!
You will find Moneyball Sportswear off the basketball court too! They value community and giving back to the community by sponsoring free athletic summer camps and an annual “Socks for the Homeless” campaign! 
Tell us about Moneyball Sportswear:
We are an athletic clothing like that specializes in custom team uniforms while also providing high quality retail items to our customers.
What’s your background? What made you go into the uniform and performance gear industry?
I grew up being a local barber and was able to buy my first car at the age of 16 off of $4 hair cuts at the time. I was blessed to graduate from the University Of Detroit-Mercy with a Business Management degree and I played professional basketball for 11 years in 11 different countries. So, this allowed me to experience different countries, people, and establish some great relationships to start and grow Moneyball Sportswear.
What do you love about having a business in the Greater Lansing area?
That is this home and I get a chance to give back to the community from which I come from.

In addition to online sales, where are Moneyball stores located?
We have 3 stores…. Our headquarters is our Lansing store, which is located at 603 N Waverly Rd, on the corner of Waverly and Saginaw St…. Our 2nd store is located in the Meridian Mall in Okemos, MI… And our 3rd store is located in Southfield, MI.
You outfit teams all over with Moneyball performance sportswear and gear – would you share a couple of teams?
We started doing uniforms for Detroit Public School High School teams and have grown from there. We do basketball uniforms for all 3 Lansing High Schools: Everett, Sexton, & Easter… We uniform for all levels and for universities such a Wayne State Men’s Basketball
What has been the most challenging part of running your business during COVID, and how did you overcome it?
The most challenging part was that no sports were going on and we had to close all 3 of our brick and mortar locations for a few months, so we turned our attention to online with e-commerce.

What are some exciting plans you have for the business in 2021 and as we move towards 2022?
We will be celebration our 20 year anniversary in June of 2022, so we are looking forward to that.
