Small Business Saturday: DBN Boutique | Greater Lansing Area Moms

DBN Boutique’s recent Grand Opening Ribbon Cutting event

Small Business Saturday!  And this week – DBN Boutique.  A new women’s clothing boutique located at 301 MAC Avenue, suite 107.

We spoke with owner Onylah Taggart and we are in awe!  Not only did DBN Boutique open during a pandemic, it is owned by a 20 year old Michigan State student who also has a 4 month old son – and she shared that he is a pretty awesome baby.  🙂

To say she is busy is an understatement and we are amazed by this eager, forward thinking small business owner that is doing it her own her own way!

When GLAMoms asked about her son she shared that he knows his mom is making it happen and Onylah added, “he is my sidekick and while it is A LOT of work, and as long as he is fed….” 🙂

Onylah is on track to do some big things and we cannot want to see where her vision leads!  But first, let’s share more about DBN Boutique!

Welcome to GLAMoms!

Tell us about DBN Boutique!
DBN – means Dazzle by Ny!  I am the owner of DBN Boutique in East Lansing.  DBN Boutique just opened on October 10.  I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit, a love of fashion and thought Downtown East Lansing was the perfect place for DBN Boutique.

DBN Boutique has women’s clothing and accessories and while I am not a stylist, I do help out when someone needs assistance putting something together!   DBN Boutique also gives girls opportunities and promotes self-expression through fashion.

Is there a story behind the name – DBN Boutique?
Yes!  DBN is short for Dazzle by Ny!  And Ny is short for Onylah.

What is a #dazzlebabe?
#dazzlebabe is the name I call those who shop at DBN Boutique 🙂

What inspired you to open DBN Boutique in Downtown East Lansing?
While my grandmother has passed, she remains a big inspiration and driving force.  I miss her, but she still guides me.  Grandmas are the best.

My parents are awesome and while they do not live locally they are an excellent support system!

Do you offer online shopping?
Yes.  And also, local in-store pick up is also available.

What do you love about having a business in the Greater Lansing area?
I love being near Michigan State.  Being walking distance from campus and Downtown East Lansing has been key.

What has been the most challenging part of running your business during COVID, and how did you overcome it?
Fear.  The fear of all of the unknowns.  Will we be required to shut down?

While DBN Boutique does have the opportunity to shop online yet we have a lot of foot traffic and the most challenging part of COVID continues to be really not knowing.

What are some exciting plans you have for the business as we move towards 2022?
2022… So much!  Growing DBN Boutique to the next level by scaling the business up, more branding, more content…

The possibility of opening a second location is definitely something on the horizon.

I have to share, the Michigan State Burgess Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation program is an awesome program and their staff and interns offer up a huge amount of support!  They foster my entrepreneurial spirit and I am looking forward to achieving big things!

And in 2022, I am on track to graduate from Michigan State early!  🙂

Only the Best, for the Best

What’s your favorite business or two in the area?
I like to shop at Plato’s Closet and grab something quick at Clean Juice.  When my son turns 6 months we are going to start swimming lessons at Goldfish Swim School in Okemos.

I recently went to visit friends and took my son to Metta Baby in Chicago.  Is there something like that around the Greater Lansing area?  If not, we need to get something like it – he LOVED it  🙂

Is there any sort of promotion you would like to offer GLAMom’s followers?
Sure.  20% off your order with code WELCOME

Thank you Onylah, we have enjoyed learning more about DBN Boutique and we look forward to watching your Boutique flourish in Downtown East Lansing!
