Project Prom Greater Lansing | Greater Lansing Area Moms

Gracie Schall, Okemos 2024 Senior

Have you heard about Project Prom?  It is an idea Okemos Senior Gracie Schall has brought to life and hopes to make prom (and other formal events) extra special for everyone!  Gracie shares more about what she hopes to collect, her motivation and ways to help!

If you have formal dresses hanging in your closet, Project Prom will gladly take them off our hands.  No dresses, tuxes or other fancy accessories or shoes to give?   No problem, there are other ways to help Gracie and her team bring some magic to mid-Michigan this prom season!

What is your motivation or reason behind the Project Prom?

Last year I had seen a similar event in Ann Arbor and I thought it was an incredible and thoughtful idea. I also haven’t heard of similar opportunities in the greater Lansing area. Recently, as I was dress shopping for my winter formal dance I had realized how fortunate I am to be able to buy my dresses and attend school dances. I really wanted to share that with others and make dress shopping more accessible and sustainable for everyone.

How many dresses are you hoping to collect?

I hope to collect as many dresses as I can! (Personal goal is about 150+) I want there to be many options of style, size, etc. I’m also hoping to get many donations of accessories and dress shoes. I have made a clarification on Project Prom’s instagram that we will also be collecting any suits/tuxedos as well. While it hadn’t crossed my mind originally, I want to be inclusive of everyone! There will also be a wide variety of donations, and all ages are welcome! It’s definitely not just for prom.

Are you taking cash donations to offset prom expenses, etc?

I have thought about collecting cash donations to help pay for dance expenses, dry cleaning, etc. I will likely do it on a person-to-person basis, where they can message/email me and arrange donations. I was thinking of having gift cards and cash envelopes available at the event for those who request them.

Have you sent this to area school districts?

Yes! I have reached out to every school in the area (Instagram and email). Currently Okemos, Williamston and Bath have fliers up! I will also be putting a donation box in Okemos High School for a week in March.

Are you taking donations for people to purchase or sponsor tickets to prom?

Yes! Money donations can be arranged through email! [email protected]

You’re a senior!!!  What are your plans next year?

Next year I’m planning on attending a four year university for my undergraduate degree. I’m not 100% sure which college I’ll end up at yet, but I know I plan to major in psychology!

What are you looking forward to at your Senior Prom?

My senior prom is going to be a bittersweet night! I hope I make the most of it. My favorite part is always the chance to get all dressed up!

Anything else you would like to share with Greater Lansing Area Moms?

I would like to add that Project Prom is absolutely not only about prom! I’ve learned and grown my idea a ton since my original post and flier! This event is for anyone and everyone. We’ll have so many options for dresses (hopefully suits too!) there may be options for bridesmaids, wedding guests, and any kind of event!

Gracie, this is incredible!  And what gifts – and memories – you are giving to others in the Greater Lansing area!  ❤️👗
