🌪️ When a Meteorologist Helped My Daughter Understand Tornadoes and why we’re sharing it today – mid January.
A GLAM Kid had a science project and decided to go all in on tornadoes. And lucky for her, Greater Lansing’s own meteorologist Colton Cichoracki said yes to a Zoom call to help bring her questions to life.
He didn’t just talk about tornadoes.
He talked about science, safety, storm patterns, and what it’s like to keep a whole region informed when the skies turn scary.
He explained how tornadoes form, how radar and warnings work, and behind-the-scenes insights that meteorologists use every day. Making her project way more exciting (and educational) than we ever expected.
And she had the QR code to the YouTube video to share the explanations Colton shared nearby.
The highlight? Watching her realize her interest in storms wasn’t just a school assignment. It was science she could see herself in. That kind of confidence? Can’t be graded.
Colton, you weren’t just a helpful resource, you were a real, live meteorologist who turned her science fair into something truly unforgettable. It’ll be hard to top this one.
We originally planned to share this closer to severe weather season…
But we found out that Colton is leaving WILX, and we couldn’t let him go without saying THANK YOU.
Thank you, Colton, for always being a calm voice during chaotic weather.
Thank you for inspiring a curious GLAM Kid.
Thank you for everything you’ve been to the Greater Lansing area.
We’re excited to see where your forecast takes you next, but you’ll always have a place right here at greaterlansingareamoms.com.

A few photos that day (we are were not nearly as organized in our make-shift, at home set up) and a photo from the Science Fair at her school in April, 2025.
Colton Cichoracki shared on Facebook he would be leaving. Read the post here -> .facebook.com/
