Hi Holly, Please introduce yourself-I’m a busy mom trying to find that work/home balance while feeling like I live out of my car! I love escaping to the north and finding a moment to read and spend time with people I love. I’m a strong believer in volunteerism, giving back to the community and trying to make every slice of life more meaningful.
Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in the Lansing area?
I grew up in Traverse City, Michigan, attended MSU, lived in Chicago for 3 years and settled here in the Lansing area. We currently live in Haslett, go Vikings!
You’re a mom! How many kids do you have and what are their ages? What is your favorite thing about being a mom?I have 3 kids: Dane 14, Glory 13 and Porter 8. I love making my kids feel special, whether it’s cheering them on from the sidelines or the audience, getting them a special treat or even the simple things like packing their lunches or going on a walk.
We’re big on self-care for moms, as hard as it is to find the time, what’s something you do just for yourself?
I love a hot cup of tea with a great book. I also love a big glass of wine and Netflix – it just depends on my mood!
What are your go-to restaurants and shops in the Greater Lansing area?
I am loving the Jolly Pumpkin! Some of my other favorites are Sultan’s, Maru and Taste of Thai. I love shopping at Polka Dots in Old Town, it’s owned by an amazing gal!
You wear many hats! How do you juggle your career with being a mom and wife?
Oftentimes I feel like I have too much on my plate, but what helps me is spending my Sunday afternoons meal planning, grocery shopping (or doing grocery pick-up!) and doing laundry. I also use a white board to write down the activities for each family member for the day and a chore for each kid. It really helps us to all know what the day will look like.
Tell us about what you do for Haslett Public Schools and your favorite thing about your career?
I am a media specialist. So obviously I love books and have a passion for reading and helping students succeed. My favorite part of the job is seeing kids everyday and also ordering books. There is nothing like NEW BOOKS (happy dance)!
You’re also a Trunk Keeper for Matilda Jane Clothing, cute and stylish clothing for women & kids! Tell us about the company and how you got started with it.
What started as a little side gig when my kids were little has exploded into a thriving boutique business. The company was founded by an amazing woman who created clothing for women and girls and sold it at art fairs across the Midwest. When she couldn’t keep up with the demand for her clothing she started a full-on business and hired Trunk Keepers to spread the joy of the clothing and her passion for giving-back to others.

Favorite places to visit in Michigan – I love being in Northern Michigan. Almost every small town has its own feel and you always find little gems – interesting boutiques, little restaurants … and best of all stunning nature. I never get tired of exploring up north!

I love being on the water – sailing or motor boating, I love them both.
