Welcome to GLAMoms, Arie 🙂

Please introduce yourself, where are you from, where do you reside now?
Hello! My name is Arie Abramouski and I am from Troy, MI and now live in DeWitt. I met my husband, Scott, when I was a freshman at Michigan State and we have two children, Connor & Emery.

What do you think is one of the best parts about being a mom?
I absolutely love seeing children change through the stages and develop their own personality. Being a mom is so humbling, one moment you think you have a handle on it then the kids change and you have so much more to learn. I love being there to support them in their changes as they teach me so much about myself.

We know your kids are young (two under 3) – what piece of advice for new moms you wish you would have known when your kids were even younger?
Don’t feel pressure to do things a certain way.  Be confident in the decisions you make for your family and know that you are doing your absolute best.

What is your favorite piece of baby equipment or gear with your second?  How about any you purged after your first?
I cannot live without my Happy Baby carrier. I am a lover of all things small business related and when a friend introduced me to this brand I instantly fell in love. When you have a newborn and a toddler you need to have your hands free so we use our baby carriers every single day!

Something I purged: Baby nail clippers. I could not figure out how to use them!! Got a mini pair of travel clippers and they haven’t let me down yet.

Tell us about M43 Fitness!
M43 Fitness is a local functional fitness facility that opened in April 2018. We now have two locations, one in Lansing and one in Downtown DeWitt. What makes M43 unique is that our members have the option to subscribe to the M43 Fitness app which gives them access to weekly workouts with video guidance based on their experience level.

The idea for M43 Fitness began when my husband, Scott, was using the app to send training programs to clients to do at their house or at the gym. We had such great feedback on the simplicity of following a workout program on the app and how it was just the guidance they needed and the flexibility to complete the workout on their own time. The rest pretty much spiraled from there!

We searched for and found a building we loved, worked to create a business plan, bought and renovated the building, and opened M43 Fitness Lansing & DeWitt. We also have over 10 personal trainers that work with members one-on-one if a more personalized plan is what they are looking for.

Do you offer youth classes or programs?  If so, what age?  And what are some thoughts about encouraging youth activities in a facility as M43?
I wholeheartedly believe that one of the most important things we can do for the health of our children is to get them excited to participate in things that are good for them and educate them on why it is important. This gives them a foundation to build on and create life-long habits regarding wellness and exercise.

At M43, our middle school athletes work with personal trainers one-on-one or in small group settings. First and foremost, this ensures they develop proper movement patterns and helps to prevent injuries. It also gives children so much confidence. Working out at the gym is like an individual sport and when children (and adults) make improvements and achieve personal bests, that excitement is contagious and spreads to other areas of their lives.

How do you balance being both an area small business owner and being a mom?
Honestly, this is one of my biggest challenges because I do the majority of my work at home. It is so easy to hop on my computer and work when I have a free minute but I have to set boundaries and be okay with saving things for later.

The truth is, I could not do it without my support system. Scott and I are a really great team, my parents live nearby and they are unbelievably helpful and the personal trainers at M43 are always stepping up to help. I seriously wouldn’t be able to do it without all of them! Both the business and my children are young and require a lot from me so I soak up the craziness now because I know in a few years they will be more independent and my life will have a little more balance.

Here are a couple questions to get to know you better 🙂

Can’t live without skincare or makeup products?
Lawless Beauty mascara

Last book you read – children’s books are acceptable answers 🙂
(For myself) The Couple Next Door
Otherwise, Work Dogs Work, every single day because my son is obsessed with construction trucks.

If you watch television, the last 2-3 shows binged? 🙂
I rarely watch TV but the Handmaid’s Tale & Chicago PD

Strangest thing in the trunk of your car right now?
Toddler potty! Although I’m sure my son would prefer to go in the grass, I bring the potty with us everywhere we go now.

What did you want to be growing up?
It is so crazy to think about this but I’ve always wanted to be an entrepreneur. In high school we would take career aptitude tests and my results were always entrepreneur. Never could I have imagined it would be a gym but things always work out the way they are supposed to!

What does Arie-me-time look like?
In this season of life me-time is hard to come by but I do schedule a few workouts a week at the gym away from the kids. Otherwise, my me-time is before the kids wake up which I usually spend working and planning my day. Once the kids get to bed, Scott and I usually spend that time together hanging out and catching up on the day.

Me-time is one of the many things that has changed since having kids and opening a business so I try to cherish small moments of alone time during the day like watching the sun come up or the glorious and rare times that both my kids are asleep at the same time!

Favorite Michigan travel destination?
I love visiting Traverse City, it is one of my absolute favorite places to go. There is something so romantic and peaceful about being there. Between the food, the  wineries, the lake and so many fun activities, it is one of my favorite Michigan destinations any time of the year.

Your favorite snack?
Anything with chocolate and peanut butter

Mind sharing a mom trick another mom will be happy to learn?
Beauty blender to put on children’s face sunscreen
