While their paths have had busy seasons apart and close-knit stretches, their friendship is the kind that always picks up right where it left off. Laurie, please introduce yourself!
Hello Greater Lansing Area Moms! I am Laurie Nash and I am originally from a small nearby town, Laingsburg and now live in Haslett.
My husband Jeff and I have been married for 28 years and he has been my biggest supporter. He has always – and continues – to encourage me to fulfill my dream.
I own Another Look Hair Institute located in East Lansing and Another Look and I am the third generation that started with my grandfather, a barber in Laingsburg.
I am also a mom!
While growing the business we grew our family. Now, our son Hunter, 25 is living in Chicago with a great job in economics/finance. Our son Deven, 22 lives locally and is working as an electrical lineman for Consumers Energy and couldn’t be more proud of his commitment. Our daughter Kendall, just finished her junior year of high school and dances as a full time job.
Jeff and I live on Lake Lansing in Haslett and enjoy our water days.
Would you share more about Another Look?
Another Look, or the idea behind it started before me and actually with my grandfather who started his barbering journey in Laingsburg.
My grandfather Dwayne started balding and encouraged my dad-Rich Bellingar to specialize in how we can help others in the barbering community with balding issues too.
My dad investigated, researched and became the best he could in helping men and women with their balding. That was over 60 years ago. Fast forward to graduating from Laingsburg Schools,I received the Presidential Scholarship to Hawaii Pacific University. I studied Travel and Tourism for 2 years then I returned to Michigan.
Once home, I went to work for my dad and his growing business. I started making wigs and ventilating hair for women losing theirs. I fell in love with the reward of helping patients feel better about themselves while enhancing their image and self confidence.
I went to cosmetology school at night and continued to learn under my dad’s guidance during the day.
I bought the business in 1999 while still learning and working side by side with my father for a blessed 10 years before he retired, then he passed away in 2021.
What do you think you showcased for your kids while being a busy, working mom?
The best thing about raising my children and working is showing them that hard work, dedication and a commitment to going after what you believe in.
Having adult children now and watching as they work hard and flourish is the best gift of all!
Tough love is what I live by and I feel it has made my kids the successful young adults they are.
We never gave our kids things without having to work for them. And a great work ethic can happen at the very beginning.
Another Look has always been one of my children too. I respect it and love the reward.
What is your goal for Another Look?
My goal was to always be a specialized business to help enhance people with their image of feeling confident to succeed in their lives.
Congratulations on recently relocating! Would you share more about added services available at Another Look?
After 47 years in one location we recently moved to 1720 Abbey Road, East Lansing to ensure we can offer more options in the hair replacement Industry.
In our new location we now offer CRlab Tricology treatments, laser therapy, Alma Ted hair growth treatments. Along with micro point link (which is adding four hairs to one’s existing single strand of hair), hair extensions, accents and hair systems. Along with volumizing products, prosthetics, wigs, hats and more!
Speaking specifically of hair loss, what level of hair loss do you treat?
We have the ability to treat anything from just starting to thin to total body baldness – we have them covered.
What age groups do you treat? Men? Women? Children?
Yes, yes and yes! We help anyone – men, women and children with any thinning issues all the way through total baldness.

And those concerned about sharing their journey with us, please know, we can help with our private and individual rooms. We always respect confidentiality!
Looking ahead, what are you most excited about for Another Look?
My excitement for our future is to be known to help people suffering from image hair loss. I don’t want it to be a secret or mystery of how people can get help from such a common deficiency or concern. I want people to know they are not alone.
What would you share with other moms who may be looking to start their own business?
If I had to share my experience with other young mothers – I’d say, do it!
Stay strọng with your compassion and what you believe in. When you stay true to yourself, while raising your children, they will see that and learn from it too!
Would you suggest being part of any local organizations as a women business owner?
Yes, being a part of local organizations is very important for growth. I truly believe women want to help women’s community efforts and paying it forward will always come back in reward.

I also feel it is important to be part of educating and role modeling for area youth. I serve on the Cosmetology Board at Wilson Talent Center and have helped with many activities, events and fund raisers with Haslett Public Schools.
