Supporting East Lansing Businesses During Summer Construction 

As part of our ongoing partnership with Downtown East Lansing, we’re happy to help highlight and support the many downtown businesses that remain open and ready to welcome the community during upcoming summer construction projects.

Beginning June 1 through approximately July 17, construction is scheduled to impact portions of Grand River Avenue between Gunson Street and Woodmere Avenue. Following that phase, traffic is expected to be reduced to one lane in each direction through approximately August 22. 

And while construction can sometimes make people hesitant to visit an area, we want to remind everyone of one very important thing:

East Lansing businesses are OPEN.

Like many Michigan communities, summertime is often when larger road and infrastructure projects take place. With Michigan State University students largely away for the summer months and traffic a bit lighter, it’s often the most practical time for improvements to roads, sidewalks, utilities, and pedestrian spaces.

That said, construction can unintentionally impact small businesses simply because people assume areas are inaccessible or closed, and that is not the case here.

Below, you’ll find a list of downtown East Lansing businesses that are open during construction and would love your support this summer. Whether that means stopping in for lunch, grabbing coffee, shopping local, sharing a business post on social media, or recommending a favorite spot to a friend, every little bit helps.

Because while roads need repairs and sidewalks need updates, our local businesses need our community, too. There really is no substitute for people showing up, stopping by, and continuing to support the small businesses that help make downtown East Lansing what it is.
