Back to School Ideas from GLAMoms | Greater Lansing Area Moms

For most area students, next week means return to school!  And while we are bummed summer is drawing to a close, we are excited for the upcoming school year!

And between the two of us, we have a few first days and weeks of school under our belts!

That being said, here are a few things we have learned over the years and would like to share with you!  This is by no means the master of all return to school lists, it is simply a collection of some of our ideas that have made the first week a little less stressful.

Here are a few things we plan to do next week – and in no particular order – Also if you have other ideas to add, please send them our way.   We are learning as we go, just like the rest of the moms out there!

Plan for carry out at least twice.  That is it.  We struggle when it is light outdoors to come in.  So next week, we are ordering out and if it is nice, we will be dining out as well.  Order a little extra of what they like and there is lunch for the next day.   Or maybe yours?

Schedule very little, if anything.  Regardless of the age of your students they are going from chill and relaxed summer vibes to 6+ hours of intense newness – from where their new space is to lockers to rules and friends and sitting still and learning bells and schedules and so, so much. And as kids get older there is more and more to do, and we have practice and games and some other things that are beyond our scheduling control.  Anything beyond that, nope, not going to do it.

Leave a couple of notes somewhere – in their bag or on the counter in the bathroom they get ready in or tucked in their lunch.   First weeks are exciting and full of feelings.  And they just might find your little note at the perfect moment they need a little mom “hug” – but in the form of a Post-It!

Stick an extra snack in their bag – small and easy to grab.   Yes, this may raise some eyebrows but summer eating and snacking schedules are just as all over the place as sleep.  And nothing is worse than a hungry little tummy (or teen one) that is used to eating at one time and having to wait another 90 minutes.

This one is just for those with older kids.  A brand new stick of deodorant.   Enough said.

And moms, get in that back to school photo with your babes.   Selfie, great.  Set a timer with your phone, awesome.  Just GET IN THE PHOTO!  It is your first day back to school too!

Here’s to the school year!  Before you know it we will be counting down to summer 😊😎☀️
