📣🎭 Sutton Foster Awards at Wharton Center on Saturday, May ___
If you’ve never heard of the Sutton Foster Awards, consider this your sign, because this is Michigan talent at its finest. Hosted by the Wharton Center for Performing Arts, this statewide program celebrates high school musical theatre and gives student performers a true Broadway-level moment right here at home.
Named after Sutton Foster (a Tony Award-winning Broadway star with Michigan roots), the awards spotlight standout students in acting, singing, and dance. It’s not just a one-night show, this is a full experience with coaching, feedback, and serious exposure. And for two top performers? A ticket to New York City to represent Michigan at the national Jimmy Awards.
Formerly known as the Ovation Awards, this program has grown into a big deal across the state and it’s easy to see why. It brings together schools of all sizes, creating a space where students feel seen, celebrated, and inspired (and honestly…future Broadway stars in the making).
And this year’s detail we love: participation from both above and below the bridge. If you’re from here, you already know it means talent from both the Upper and Lower Peninsulas coming together. Pure Michigan energy, on Wharton Center stage.
GLAMoms recently chatted with Wharton Center Executive Director Eric Olmsted about the Sutton Foster Awards, head to our YouTube to watch the full conversation and get a behind-the-scenes look at what makes this program so special.
Watch the interview, cheer on these incredibly talented students, and if you’ve got a theatre kid (or future one), this is one to watch.
